The Fairy Queen 2026

Purcell’s The Fairy Queen explores the story of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream through a beautiful baroque score. It is opera at its most inventive, with an original structure that dives into the world of A Midsummer Night’s Dream through a sequence of musical numbers (‘masques’) delivered by a self-contained ensemble, but designed with the ability to slip between scenes of Shakespeare’s original play, which contain his original beloved characters. Our production will embrace the whimsical and wit-filled elements of this opera, adding a touch of psychedelic aesthetics as well.
